Con la liga de pintura de Age of Sigmar casi a punto de terminar ya tenemos los ojos puestos en la siguiente, en la que hemos decidido pintar cada uno varios Marines Espaciales Primaris de un capítulo diferente. Aquí os traigo mi primera prueba.
Durante mis años mozos me dediqué a montar un ejército de Templarios Negros. Pero tras pensarlo un poco, descarté pintar mis Marines Espaciales Primaris de este capítulo. El color negro no es precisamente agradecido de pintar (o en otras palabras, no me atrevo). En su lugar, opté por un capítulo aun más carismático, los Ultramarines. El azul clarito, insignia por antonomasia del capítulo, es, a diferencia del negro, mucho más fácil de trabajar. En cuanto a la técnica de pintura, hastiado de ver Marines Espaciales demasiado fantasiosos, quería conferir a mi miniatura un aspecto más «real». Es por ello que decidí usar exactamente las mismas técnicas y seguir el mismo estilo que utilizo cuando pinto tanques históricos: modulación seguida de varios efectos de envejecimiento. De hecho, ya intenté hacer precisamente esto hace unos meses cuando preparé para mi hermano una pequeña guía de pintura para sus Devoradores de Mundos. Sin embargo, mientras que en aquella guía buscaba un protocolo sencillo y efectista, en este caso he dado rienda a suelta a mis pinceles.
Tras imprimar el Marine espacial en color negro, mezclé a partes iguales negro y Altdorf blue de Citadel. Como diluyente, usé el thinner de AMMO que ha resultado ser perfecto para las pinturas de Citadel: la pintura queda perfectamente diluida sin que aparezca la odiada textura de puntitos al disparar con el aerógrafo (lo cual es indicativo de una mala dilución / mezcla de pigmento y diluyente). Acto seguido apliqué una primera luz con azul de Altdorf puro, seguida de cerca por una segunda luz con Calgar blue puro; y finalmente, pinté una última luz añadiendo un poco de blanco al Calgar blue. La forma o técnica de iluminación que he seguido sigue un poco la estela de la modulación a la Mig Jimenez, donde la idea es combinar contrastes agresivos entre paneles. Es decir, la luz de una panel queda adyacente a la sombra de otro. Aunque irreal, es una técnica muy efectista que ayuda a hacer destacar nuestra miniatura. Para darle un poco de color a la miniatura pinté el casco de color rojo (también con aerógrafo) y añadí con blanco y un pincel un ajedrezado en una de las hombreras y rodillera, mientras que en la otra pareja pinté la omega invertida. Para terminar rocié la miniatura con barniz satinado.
El siguiente paso es el lavado o wash. En lugar de usar una tinta acrílica, como los shades de Citadel, opté por un lavado de tipo esmalte de AMMO. El Wash for dark green vehicles. La diferencia? Los esmaltes tardan horas en secar, comparado con los acrílicos que tardan segundos. Esto nos permite eliminar tranquilamente el exceso de lavado simplemente pasando un pincel humedecido en white spirit.
Recuero mi primera caja de Warhammer 40000, que rezaba «en el 41 milenio solo hay guerra«. Aquella frase ha quedado grabada a fuego en mi mente, y cada que me imagino un guerrero de este milenio, me lo imagino con el equipo desgastadísimo de tanto guerrear. Por lo tanto, mi marine debe mostrar los típicos desgastes de una guerra: al tratarse de una armadura, lo más obvio son los desconchones. Pero aquí decidí hacer algo nuevo (nuevo dentro de mi repertorio de técnicas). Los desconchones normalmente se dividen en dos pasos: primero se pintan de un color claro (= desconchones o arañazos superficiales) y después con un color oscuro (= desconchones o arañazos más profundos). Lo que he hecho ha sido utilizar el primer paso, el color claro (Calgar blue + white), para aplicar un perfilado por TODAS las aristas de la armadura. Este perfilado sirve tanto como luz como para representar esos desconchones superficiales. A continuación, utilizando el color Dark oxide de Vallejo he re-pintado algunos de los desconchones / arañazos. Solo algunos. Y ojo, no se trata de pintar encima, si no de dejar ambos colores a la vista: el color claro dará profundidad al oscuro, ganando volumen. Hice exactamente lo mismo en el resto de colores de la miniatura, como el casco o el bolter.
Finalmente, el último efecto de envejecimiento han sido unos pigmentos en la base y en los piés de la miniatura. Primero disolví varios pigmentos con White spirit, y a continuación lo aplique cual tinta por la base y pies. Cuando el disolvente se hubo secado, simplemente pasé con suavidad con bastoncillo de algodón para retirar el exceso y para que el pigmento quedara acumulado solamente en las rendijas, donde el bastoncillo no tiene acceso.
