Y con estos, ¡hago 30 esqueletos! Tras completar nuestro reto de pintura de AoS (1500 puntos), decidí incrementar la lista hasta los 2000 puntos. Uno de los cambios que hice fue sacar las dos unidades de Grave guard y transformarlos en esqueletos normales, mucho más baratos y todavía eficaces. Y como colofón, he querido aumentar el tamaño de la unidad con otros diez soldados, éstos últimos armados con lanza para poder atacar en varias filas. Esta vez los esqueletos son modelos normales y no tumularios. Con todo y con eso, la mezcla resultante me gusta bastante: llena de colorido y contrastes.
Para pintar esta nueva tanda de soldados me he lanzado a utilizar las pinturas Contrast que tan en boga parecen esta ahora (ni que fueran un invento nuevo….que se lo digan a las tintas que ya tenía en el mercado Greenstuff World o Army Painter!). La idea de probar estas pinturas no solo era por el propio morbo de utilizar una técnica nueva para mi, si no para ahorrar tiempo. Sobre todo para pintar el maldito color hueso que tanto odio. Previamente ya intenté otra aproximación para pintar hueso utilizando tintas (también de Citadel), que me gustó bastante.
Para usar las tintas primero imprimé las miniaturas utilizando un bote de imprimación gris de Citadel. Como este color era muy oscuro, y tenía un montón de hueso que pintar, aplique con aerógrafo una fina capa de color blanco. La idea de las pinturas Contrast es tener un blanco manchado o gris como base, no blanco puro. Así que la capa de blanco que apliqué no cubría 100%.
Aunque me compré unas cuantas pinturas Contrast, en esta ocasión solo utilicé unas pocas: para la parte de hueso utilicé Skeleton Horde, mientras que para las partes rojas utilicé Flesh Tearers Red y para el astil de las lanzas una mezcla a partes iguales de Nazdreg Yellow y Shyish purple (la idea era generar un tono marrón). En todos los casos siempre diluí un poco la pintura Contrast con el correspondiente medium, salvo Skeleton Horde. De hecho, apliqué dos capas de éste color en las zonas de hueso. En el caso del rojo, intenté sacar sombras púrpuras mezclando la pintura Contrast Shyish con medium en una proporción 1:2 (doble de medium que de pintura). Apliqué esta mezcla por toda la zona roja. Sin embargo, no quedo como hubiera gustado…apenas se notó el color púrpura, pero todo el conjunto quedó más oscuro. Al final me toco tirar de pincel y pintura normal para rescatar el color rojo y luego para meter una luz con bermellón. El resto de colores de la figura -negro y metales- los pinté con pintura normal y tintas de Citadel, como he venido haciendo con antelación.
He de decir que para el hueso el resultado de Skeleton Horde más o menos me gustó. Si bien es cierto que al final tuve que retocar contadas zonas directamente con una tinta, el shade Agrax Earthshade. Una de estas zonas fue el craneo para resaltar los detalles de la «cara». Pero no metí ninguna luz adicional a pincel. Lo dejé tal cual.
Mi conclusión de las pinturas Contrasts basada en este único experimento es la siguiente:
El resultado no es tan definido como esperaba, y requiere dar pinceladas con cuidado para no pasarse y arruinar otro detalle de la figura. A veces una segunda capa funciona muy bien (Skeleton Horde), pero a veces, no (rojo + púrpura). Y a veces es beneficioso utilizar un Shade de Citadel para resaltar alguna sombra. Sin embargo, me pinté 10 miniaturas en el tiempo que me habría llevado pintar 2. Esta claro que esa es la función de las contrast. Pintar rápido y resultón. Pero para detalle, hay que tirar de otras técnicas.
A medida que haga más experimentos iré compartiendo los resultados.
Brutales estos sacos de huesos! Tengo pendiente de probar el Skeleton Horde, precisamente para los mismos esqueletos. En cuanto al resto de contrast, soy especialmente fan del amarillo, casi solo por este color vale la pena pintar de forma «distinta». Los marrones también cubren muy muy bien. Pero es lo que dices, hay que pintar muy limpio para rentabilizar el tiempo y no tener que volver a aplicar base o cubrir con otro color.

Tengo que probar algún amarillo! El otro día me compré otro par de pinturas, incluidas el azul ultramarine….y la decepción ha sido máxima. Quizás fuese que la pintura no está correcta (la agite durante 10 minutos), pero el efecto resultante es super sucio y poco definido. Nada que hacer con otras pinturas de la misma gama.
Ya veremos que tal prosiguen los experimentos.
